Discovering Giulianova

Giulianova is settled in the foothills of the Apennines and faces, like a panoramic terrace, the Adriatic Coast.
Currently Giulianova shows signs of an ancient urban settlement, a hamlet of medieval origins safeguarded by 4 defensive towers, of which the Porta Napoli and Il Bianco remain intact, recently restructured, which hosts the archeological site of the Museo Civico.

Driving along the Adriatic Coast Road (the Statale Adriatica), you arrive at the city to see the Torre Costiera del Salinello, an example of a defensive structure of the Vice-realm of Naples. The metalwork, coral and gold shops that keep the city’s traditions alive are not to be missed, and that display products of incredible value.

Giulianova is a city closely tied to religious tradition, as witnessed by the buildings that it is possible to visit here, such as the Church of Saint Flavian, a Cathedral dedicated to the patron saint of the city and an imposing renaissance octagonal construction, located in Piazza Buozzi.

The Santuario della Madonna dello Splendore is also striking, built in the XVI century where stories say that Madonna appeared. The Convento dei Francescani instead hosts the Museo d’Arte dello Splendore, with sacred works of art.

A particular event in Giulianova, in august, is the Festa della Madonna di Portosalvo, a march which proceeds from land towards the sea with a parade of fishing boat that, as a sign of devotion, accompany the Virgin Mary to the sea and then throw a crown of flowers in the water.

There are also several events that liven up the city in the spring and summer, from music to antique exhibits, from cabaret to poetry. Those who love eating can try the various food and wine itineraries that Giulianova has to offer.
